Praise, Recognition & Material Things: July Savvy Days Competition!

Thursday wrapped up an amazing five session series of learning, growing and competing with our horses here in Salt Lake City, Utah! In an effort to follow Pat's guidelines of 80% Principles and 20% purpose in our horsemanship, I designed a series of 5 Days where each day would consist of 4 two hour workshops. On each day, each workshop would cover one Savvy; and we would spend an hour and a half developing our skills, and delving stronger into the principles of Parelli Natural Horsemanship, THEN during the last thirty minutes we would set up the Parelli Tournaments, and have a friendly competition! It meant long days (First workshop 8-10, second 10:30-12:30, third 2-4, and fouth 4:30-6:30), dedicated students, wet saddle blankets and massive improvements for everyone!

Over the course of the month of July, and the five different days, we had 15 different students of all levels compete with their equine partners. Each day was more fun then the last with better camraderie, caring, and connection both between humans and horses, and humans and humans ;).

So yesterday was the finale of our JULY SAVVY DAYS COMPETITION!! So being as us human's like a little "Praise and Recognition" I thought I would publish our HIGHLY (scoff scoff ...) official scores! Congratulations to everyone who participated and made great progress!

In order to set up this competition I used the tasks from the Parelli Tournaments (their are 7 per Savvy). We gave each competitor 5 minutes to attempt the three tasks, and each task had both a 10 and 20 point version, so 90 points were available on each competition. There were prizes each day for the highest score in each Savvy, and the highest Score overall for the day. Then at the conclusion their were prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall, as well as highest individual score within each Savvy, and highest overall score within each Savvy ;).

I've shared this not using people's last names in case they want to keep it private, but I also wanted to give people the recognition they deserve for putting in some hard work! My favorite thing about looking at these scores is seeing the IMPROVEMENT people made session to session within each Savvy! Its so awesome to have a matrix to actually see our improvement with our horses ... here are a few examples of that awesome progress:
